We got to the University of Michigan campus at 7a... in a HUGE rainstorm. So bad that I was so close to pulling over on the drive there. Thankfully we had ponchos at our disposal for the walk to the stadium.
We got a free parking spot at Lauryn's friends house and by the time we walked to the stadium, it had stopped raining. Hooray! So we got to have some run watching the great musical performance and see all the graduates have a blast. Surprisingly, the two hours we waiting inside the stadium for it to start flew by.
Even with the rain stopped we didn't take off our handy dandy ponchos. HaHa.
It was a packed house...
...and, as expected, even had lots of sharp shooters all over the place!
It started at 11a and Obama came out to lots of cheers and applause. It was pretty dang awesome! (ps- do you see all the cameras out in the graduates hands, lots of photo snapping happening here)
Obama getting his honorary Law degree. Lucky guy! He can now say he is officially a Michigan Wolverine.
And so his speech begins...
I taped a lot of his speech with my iPhone. Never wanted to forget all the great things he had to share with this crowd.
Overall, this was one of those days that I will never forget. Hearing Obama speak might have been the highlight of my year. Really. It was full of hope, motivation, laughter, truth and inspiration. He might not be perfect, but neither am I, so no matter my political views - I still think this was a once in a lifetime chance.

Wow! What an great day. You and Lauryn are too cute!
I agree with what you said- no matter what our personal beliefs, he is our president and what an awesome opportunity to hear him live! :)
you and lauryn are beautiful! i thought about you both the days leading to saturday because the campus was crazy busy preparing. what an awesome experience! :)
On Easter weekend Sandy and I went up North to visit her sister. We stopped briefly at a roadside restaurant for lunch and they were showing a live feed of Obama speaking at a university (I'm not sure which one, you may remember it).
I was drawn to the TV. To be honest I'm not familiar with all of his political stances, all I could think of was what an incredible opportunity this would be. To see the president of your country in such an intimate setting, and to possibly be able to directly ask him a question.
I was elated when he was elected. I saw it as a chance for change, and hope for a younger generation who dared not aspire towards anything greater. Next step, let's see a woman get voted in. There are far too few women in politics.
BTW, you have me keeping an eye on how the Red Wings are doing and I don't even watch hockey. Never have. Do you have some subliminal hypnotic power you're not telling us about?
Once again I will say that I am SOOO jealous of you! To hear Obama speak in person has got to be such an amazing experience. And that SMILE. Lol, I have a little crush on him ;-)
I have two friends that are Michigan Wolverines. Graduated now but it's amazing how loyal they are to that school!
I'm Canadian and am so excited by your President!
Obama is an excellent speaker with a huge huge task before him. I truly believe he works with love in his heart for all people.
What a wonderful weekend...leading up to your....BIRTHDAY soon!
Amazing!!!
I am with Faiza - as a Canadian I am loving Mr. Obama :) What an experience to hear him speak.... very very cool. And you and Lauryn are stinkin' cute as usual :) But really that is no surprise at all!
So cool! Was he worth sitting in the rain for?
looks like you had an amazing time.
and i love the last few sentences that you wrote. none of us are perfect, but i like to believe we all try to do the best we can, and i think that includes obama. :)
It is great that we have a leader who is so motivational, inspiring and positive...
dude! i love obama! i don't even care what people think. the man has personality and is super smart. i would love to hear him speak somewhere some day.
I am so jealous! I don't care what anyone says - I truly believe Obama wants nothing but great things for our country. He is such a passionate speaker, too - how can you NOT be moved??? I heard him speak the night he was elected and I was totally crying.
So awesome! I hope that Kalamazoo Central gets voted to have Obama speak at their high school commencement. It made the final 3! Obama is choosing and the announcement is tomorrow!
